Pair a Standalone Apple Watch

Connect an Apple Watch directly to an athlete who does not have an iPhone of their own.

Use this connection for an Apple Watch that is worn away from its paired iPhone, including a watch set up with Apple Watch For Your Kids (formerly Family Setup). The watch sends workouts directly to rslts, so the athlete does not need an iPhone or an rslts account of their own.

If the athlete records workouts on an Apple Watch paired to their own iPhone, use Apple Health instead.

Before you start

You need:

  • The rslts app installed on the Apple Watch.
  • The Apple Watch connected to Wi-Fi or cellular data.
  • An rslts account that owns the athlete profile. A coach or someone with a shared view of the athlete cannot pair the watch.

The person who manages the watch can install rslts from the watch’s App Store. Depending on the watch’s settings, the download may require approval from its family organizer.

Step 1: Get the code from the watch

Open rslts on the Apple Watch. The watch displays a six-character Pairing code.

The watch displays the code to enter in rslts

Keep the app open while you complete the next step. If the code expires, tap New code on the watch and use the replacement.

Step 2: Pair the watch

You can enter the code in the rslts iPhone or iPad app, or on rslts.run.

In the rslts app

  1. Sign in to the account that owns the athlete profile.
  2. Open Settings.
  3. Under Data Sources, tap Apple Watch.
  4. Enter the code shown on the watch.
  5. Under Pair to, choose the athlete who wears the watch.
  6. Tap Pair Watch.
Open Apple Watch from Settings → Data Sources
Enter the code and choose the owned athlete

On rslts.run

  1. Sign in and open Connected Platforms from the account menu.
  2. Choose the athlete who wears the watch.
  3. In the Apple Watch section, enter the code shown on the watch.
  4. Select Pair watch.

The watch displays Paired after it receives the connection. Do not pair a shared watch to more than one athlete: every workout uploaded by that watch is assigned to the athlete you choose here.

The paired watch appears with its athlete, status, and last sync

Step 3: Allow workout access

When the watch asks for Health access, allow all requested workout and activity categories. This permission is granted on the watch; it does not use the Health permissions from the managing adult’s iPhone.

rslts reads workouts and their available distance, heart-rate, route, pace, step, and energy data. It does not write to Apple Health. Sleep is not available from a Family Setup watch.

Open rslts on the watch to review sync status

Confirm that syncing is working

After pairing, the watch begins importing recent workouts. The first import can take some time and continues in the background.

To check the connection:

  • On the watch, open rslts and review the sync status.
  • In the rslts app, return to Settings → Apple Watch and check Last sync under Paired watches.
  • On rslts.run, open Connected Platforms, choose the athlete, and check Last synced in the Apple Watch section.

If a recent workout has not appeared, make sure the watch has internet access and open rslts on the watch to give it another opportunity to sync.

Unpair or move the watch to another athlete

In the rslts app, open Settings → Apple Watch and tap Unpair for the watch. On rslts.run, open Connected Platforms, choose the athlete, and select Unpair in the Apple Watch section.

Unpairing stops future uploads but does not delete workouts already imported. To assign the watch to someone else, unpair it first, open rslts on the watch to get a new code, and repeat the pairing steps with the correct athlete.
